Lakes, Pacific Northwest
Beaver lake is located off the Port Alice road. The lake is quite shallow, but which in spite of this, it has a great sport fishery which includes rainbow and cutthroat trout that get to a good size. As this lake is shallow, it is one of the lakes that you must fish in the spring or late fall to get the best fishing.
There are some nice trails in the area and plenty of wildlife for your camera, the birding is awesome and you can see some of the islands frogs and salamanders here. You will have a good chance in seeing Black Bears, Cougars, Elk, Deer, Raccoons, Pine Martins and so many types of birds. There is a nice picnic site here. It is a popular picnic and day use site located along the highway leading to the town of Port Alice. Access to the Beaver Lake Interpretive Forest trail is located across the highway from the picnic area.. Please pack out what you pack in as garbage services are not provided at this site.
I have always liked to stop here on my to Port Alice, its a great place to relax and slow down after the hectic run up the island. There is a nice dock and a swimming platform out on the lake, during the hot days of summer, this is a very popular site for swimming.
The beaver lake trail is such a wonder, how many times did i pass this trail up? I have stopped at the lake many times without heading up trail. I have really missed out. The trail is truly special, a hidden jewel. For those who have not hiked it, you should, its a great trail. The trail was created by both the Western Forest Products logging company and the BC Government. Its an interpretive trail that takes you through a variety of forest settings.
