Haslam Creek Trail

The Haslam Creek Trail is easily accessed. You can find it across the road from Cassidy Airport in Nanaimo. If you are heading south on the highway, turn right onto Timberlands Road and then left on Ninatti Road and follow the signs.

My son Robert and I hiked onto the bridge (did I say hike) it’s no more than a 10-minute walk to the bridge. The trail is part of the Trans Canada trail. The trail is mostly flat with a small amount of elevation overall. It is a very easy walk but not suitable for walkers or wheelchairs. The bridge is pretty cool with great views of the creek below. You can get down to the water’s edge a bit further down the trail. It’s a rough trail on the west side of the bridge. We went when it was raining and the trail was quite muddy and slippery. I would suggest trying this out in drier situations. Although the creek was roaring making this was pretty cool.

The trail from here to the Extension Trail is a favourite hike for those who enjoy walking in the forest. You can walk right through to the Abyss Crack Trail, The Abyss Crack trail also known as the Extension Trail runs from the Abyss Crack for about 9 km and ends at the suspension bridge that crosses Haslam Creek. This is a pretty cool trail. The Abyss is a long, narrow crack that happened thousands of years ago during an earthquake. The crack is up to 16 inches wide and quite deep.

I really enjoyed the walk to the bridge and exploring the whole area, you will too. Don’t forget your camera.
