Ralph River Trails

The Ralph River Trails are located in Strathcona Park. The Shepard Creek Trail and Wild Ginger Trail both head out from Ralph River. On the Ginger trail, you will see large patches of wild ginger plants with their beautiful heart-shaped leaves.

On the Shepard Creek trail, you will hike up along the Ralph River to the point where Shepard Creek joins in and then hike up along the creek; both are short but pleasant hikes. Hiking here is pretty awesome; the trees are huge, and there is always the chance of seeing animals in the forest.

Ralph River Trails are located in Strathcona Park and flow into Buttle Lake. There is a very nice campground at the river mouth with 85 vehicle-accessible sites. These sites are not serviced but do have pit toilets and a hand-pumped water supply, along with a boat launch. All sites are first-come, first-served. Camping in the off-season is $16.00 per night, with a second vehicle cost of $8.00. You can put a second camping trailer on one site, but you must pay a double fee of $16.00 more per night.

Campfires are allowed in the fire rings unless there is a fire ban. Please bring your own wood or purchase wood at the site; it is illegal to gather wood from the park to burn. You can camp at the Ralph River campground which is about halfway down the lake Buttle Lake campground on the north end of the lake or at the Buttle Lake campground on the north end of the lake.

Many other trails can be accessed from the shores of Buttle Lake; some head off from the road, while others require a trip across the lake. All are pretty awesome.
