Adam River Estuary

The Ma’amtagila occupied the area around the Adam River Estuary for thousands of years. Their primary dwelling places were Etsekin and Haylate, locations that were central to the overall territories of the Kwakwaka’wakw people.

This is a wonderful estuary to see. There is a variety of birdlife that uses this area and lots of bears, elk, deer, and other smaller forest creatures can be seen here.  If you hike up the river, you can find remains of several old buildings, most likely used as accommodations for the telegraph crews.
