Cedar lake is located on the mud lake road. This low elevation lake has some great fishing for decent trout up to 40 cm in size. A recreational site with a car-top boat launch can be found on the lake. I have been coming to this lake for years, always enjoyed my time here.

Take the mud lake road, left, off hwy 19 at Robert’s lake, and follow it to cedar lake. The wildlife and birds in the area are awesome to observe, I saw the biggest cougar of my life at this lake and have seen many bears here.

When my children were young, they had the opportunity to watch as many as 40 vultures tear apart a roadkill deer on the road to the lake. Very messy but a great experience for the kids. The smell was almost overwhelming and the sight of these incredible birds all jockeying for position to get their share was incredible. I have always been fascinated by these birds.

Camping here is rustic but very private, there is lots of wildlife to see, there are bears, elk, deer, wolves and many other kinds of smaller creatures and many types of birds, so when you visit this lake, don’t forget your camera. Best fishing is with a canoe/kayak, just before dark. It’s pretty peaceful, just at dusk, the wind always dies down here then and the insects are out and about being chased by dragonflies. You can see the fish rising all over the lake’s surface. As you look to shore, you can see your campfire smoldering away with foil-wrapped potatoes cooking in the coals, the fry pan is there, waiting to be loaded up with trout for supper. This is as close to paradise as you can get.

There are many other lakes very close to this one, all are great for fishing and camping.
