Amor Lake is located in the Sayward Forest, which is part of the Sayward Forest Canoe Route. It has one road accessible campsite on the lake. To reach this site, get on Highway 19 to the north island. Look a turn off to the left, just before Roberts Lake. This is the Black Water Lake Forest Road. Take this road and stay on it. It’s about 9 KM to the site, you will pass the Twin Lake Site, continue past there.

In the 80s, I was employed with the BC Forest Service as part of an AI team of heli-tack wildland firefighters. During one winter season, we were to work building the Sayward Valley Canoe Route. The Amor Lake Rec Site was our only access to work for this section of the route. We worked as two teams of four, with each team having two canoes. Using canoes seemed to be the right way to build a canoe route.. Over the course of three months, we built the original canoe route; since then, there have been major improvements.

The Twin Lake Site has 5 campsites, each with its own picnic table and fire ring. The site has two pit toilets. There is a gravel boat launch, with one camping site located at the boat launch. During the summer season, the water levels can drop and launching boats can be difficult, but it’s perfect for canoes and kayaks.

The lake is quite big, the shoreline is approximately 21000 meters, and the lake reaches a depth of approximately 50 meters. There are many bays, channels, inlets and beaches to set up camp, plus there are four official water-only access sites along the lake. This is one of the least accessible but totally wonderful lakes in the entire canoe route.
The entire lake is quite beautiful, and the fishing is awesome. The bird life here is incredible, and there is a real good chance of seeing elk and black bears on both the road in and on the shores of the lake. This is a special place.
