The Comox Lake Campground Park on Vancouver Island is a jewel of a site. It has beautiful sandy beaches and a swimming float. boat launch and dock. Did you know there is a great concession here? A small shop where you can pick up needed items that you left at home.

There are 18 sites that are serviced with water and power. These are located around a parking lot, making it easy to park your RV on your site. There are 41 un-serviced sites that are set back into the forest. Plus a few of these are walk-in sites that are surrounded by old-growth forests. This campground is located in a rainforest and is right on the shores of Comox Lake.

The Cumberland Lake Wilderness Society has taken over the running of this campground. They are a nonprofit society. They are offering a variety of outdoor wilderness-based programming that is available to not just the campground tenants but most are open to any who are interested in the programming.

There are various hiking trails here and the fishing is phenomenal in Comox Lake. You could hook into some pretty big trout here. One of my favourite trails that are located in the park winds up through old-growth forests to a wonderful waterfall, this trail is beautiful. the waterfall is quite spectacular to observe.

Birding here is wonderful and the types of birds, both forest and water are almost unlimited. You could see various other animals like black bears, roosevelt elk, blacktail deer, cougars, raccoons, pine martins, and quite a number of other small forest creatures.

Cumberland is just a few km back down the road and is a community that you really need to explore.

It is a well-laid-out town and the people make every effort to keep it clean and beautiful. I have always enjoyed visiting here, Cumberland is a great spot to stop and do some shopping before heading out to hike any of the local trails. Comox Lake is just down the road and there is some pretty awesome fishing to be had in its deep waters, many rivers, waterfalls, and campgrounds can be found in close proximity to Cumberland and the shops are bursting with local arts from the many artists who live here.

So if you want to see one of the island’s oldest but well-looked-after towns and camp in one of the island’s nicest campgrounds, you must come for a visit, you will not be disappointed. Please remember to bring your camera as you will want to take home memories of your journey.
