Kiwi Falls

Kiwi Falls is something you should see at least once in your life. It is the highest waterfall on Vancouver Island, with Della Falls coming up second. Some argue this though, saying that Kiwi Falls has numerous drops, but if you measure the main falls, it still comes in at 1640 feet. Della Falls comes in at 1440 feet. The upper falls drop into a lake that stands on the edge of Shoen Mountain, and the main falls drop out of this. You can reach the falls from trails in Shoen Park or you can access them from the upper Adams main. This is the way we go, and it’s a spectacular way to get to the falls.

Once you are at the trailhead, you begin this by crossing the Adams River using a tree that has fallen across the river. Once across, you follow a marked trail that will take you past a series of beaver ponds situated in a meadow. This place is absolutely beautiful. The beaver ponds are full of life. both aquatic and bird. The meadows are huge and incredible. You might be lucky and see elk, deer, and bear here. You will see lots of birds and maybe a beaver or two.

Once you begin to rise up above the meadow on Shoen Mountain, make sure you stop and look back to see the ponds and grasslands all laid out. It’s wondrous and completely peaceful. This is where you begin to see the lower falls and rapids, go to the left and climb up until you see the main falls. You will have your breath taken away.

  1. Hey! Tried to attempt this the other day but there was only signage to get to the small lake instead. At which point on the trail does it switch to the left? I couldn’t see any fork in the trail markers. Would love to come back and figure it out, was definitely disappointed I didn’t reach the falls.
