The perry river is a stream located just 2.4 miles from Tahsis and joins up with the leiner river just above the rec site. There are camping and a boat launch at the rec site. There are many trails on these rivers within a short distance of the rec site.

Fishermen will find a variety of fish including rainbow trout and cutthroat trout here. At times, the fishing here can be very hot and at other times you can get skunked, but when they are biting, it’s a blast. There is a small run of winter steelhead in Feb. and March and a good run of summer steelhead in June and July. There is a good run of coho when the water flow is high enough. This is a great river to fish for Rainbows, fly-fishing works well when you can get an open spot, but casting with a spinner is not bad either.

The Perry River headwaters are at Peters Lake on the side of Mt Alava, the river flows from here into Alava Lake and then down to perry lake. It’s all the way to the leiner river after that. It’s a wild river in the upper sections, but it mellows out a little in the lower portion. The head bay road follows the lower part until it joins the leiner river.

Mt Alava is in a group of mountains that are awesome to climb, they are very isolated though, so you must come prepared and know your way around climbing. This is a rugged country, steep, rocky and wild. Be fully prepared, and please practice good camping by leaving no mark and what came in goes out. If we all keep our Island clean, we can all enjoy it.
