Denham Bay is located in Cordero Channel on the mainland on the north side of the Bute Inlet mouth. This is a beautiful country. Denham Bay has been used for logging for quite a few years. Many remains of many old roads head out into the forest, these roads are overgrown for the most part but still walkable. I bet you can still head up as far as the lake to fish, now that would be a great adventure.
You can pre-arrange moorage with the folks who run Denham Bay Lodge. There is some pretty good fishing in the waters of the channel for salmon, cod and giant halibut. When you are out on the water you have a good chance of seeing whales, sea lions seals, and a variety of other wildlife. Kayaking is the best way to see this place.
As a young man, I logged in this area in Fredericks Arm, Bute Inlet, Estero Basin and Ramsy Arm. I remember there being a booming ground here in the bay, I think it was down the bay from the lodge location. I am not sure who was in there then. The Denham Bay Lodge is located here now, it’s a wonderful little place that offers you wilderness with all the comforts.
There are many hiking trails here along with incredible falls and mountains covered in glaziers, wild rivers roar into the ocean and grizzly bears feed on the salmon that run in these streams. The bay is on the edge of the Great Bear Rainforest and you just might see a spirit bear.
The Holmalco People
This Bay is part of the traditional land of the Holmalco People, Coast Salish. They have been living on their territories in Bute Inlet on the west coast of BC since the time began. The Holmalco have always stewarded these lands and waters and cared for their brothers and sisters in the animal world. Please respect their lands while you visit.
