Fairy Lake is located close to Port Renfrew. You use the paved Harris Creek mainline to get there. This is a pretty little lake with some awesome views. There is a very small island on the lake with a tree growing on it, this island has been photographed by so many people, it is such a beautiful little island.
There is abundant wildlife for your viewing and the fishing is quite good. You have a great chance to see black bears, elk, deer, wolves, cougars, and various other small animals along with many types of birdlife. The day l took these photos, there was a blue heron sitting in the tree on the small island, by the time my camera was up, he was flying away, would have been such a great photo.
The resident cutthroat, rainbow, and dolly varden trout average around 30 to 35 cm. There is a run of sea-run cutthroat that enters the lake and some of these can be quite big. If you’re fishing from a boat, please watch for deadhead logs, there are a few floating around the lake.
There is a popular recreation site, with a dock, sandy beach, and car-top boat launch for your use. It’s a small campground on a small lake, just at the widening of the San Juan River. This popular campground has a tendency to flood in heavy rain but should be high and dry during the popular summer months. This is an open, RV-friendly site with a beautiful sandy beach. The site has on-site supervision. The standard site fee is $15.00, but there is a $2.00 premium on waterfront sites. I was in here in May 2015 and there was quite a river running through the site, about half the spots were flooded, but there were still many that were dry.
