Horne Lake

Horne Lake is a deep lake and stays relatively cool even in the summer. In the spring, you will want to fish this lake where the Big Qualicum River enters the lake, not far from the campgrounds, just at the narrows. Good fishing in the bay out in front of this river mouth.

You can also troll at the edge of the drop-off along the lake shore, where you can pick up some nice trout. Three more streams flow past the narrows in the bay. All are great spots to wet a line. There is also some good fishing at Spider Lake, where you will find some very nice smallmouth and some nice-sized rainbows. It’s not too far away from Horne and is worth the drive over to check it out.

Cold and crystal clear water, great caves at the Horne Lake Caves Park, and wonderful camping adventures make the lake one of the great places to visit on Vancouver Island. There are some of the best caves on the island here, with both guided tours and self-guided tours available.

Visit in the Summer for great swimming and sunbathing opportunities or to just walk the trails. Come in the winter when it’s quiet, wintertime here provides some great trout fishing, and you will not be stuck in crowded tours in the Horne Lake caves. My favourite time to visit.

This Lake on Vancouver Island has two incredibly beautiful parks that offer a wide range of activities for all ages and abilities. Visit Horne Lake for adventures in caving, canoeing, or camping, or to just relax and enjoy the sites. The Horne Lake road is accessed just north of Qualicum Beach. You can reach it from the old Hwy, or there is a turn-off on the inland Island Hwy.

If you look up from the entrance to the lake, you will see the awesome display of limestone; the whole area is littered with caves, a caver’s dream.
