Stocking Creek Falls Park

Stocking Creek Falls Park is a favourite spot of ours to get a bit of nature and we go there often, there are good chances to see deer, pine martins, eagles, herons and many types of songbirds. The trails are mostly level and quite easy to walk. There are two ways into the park, both are reached off of Chemainus Road.  The trail is part of the Trans Canada Trail System. The Cowichan Valley section runs from the Capital Regional District boundary at the top of the Malahat, north to Shawnigan Lake and the Kinsol Trestle, west to the Town of Lake Cowichan then north to the Nanaimo Regional District.

The Stocking Creek Trail section has got to be the best part of this trail system. Most of the trail is dry except for during the rainy season. The falls are pretty awesome, the best time to see them is during the rainy season, so wear your boots.

Salmon Fry were released into the Stocking Creek in early May 2022 by the Crofton Elementary School. This was all part of the Canada Salmonids in the Classroom Program. It is a Program offered by Fisheries and Oceans Canada to help young students become stewards of their environment and to help young salmon get a good start in life. The program has been running for more than 40 years in BC. It will be interesting to see some of these fish return to spawn.

Awesome trails and a wonderful picnic area along with a spectacular series of waterfalls make this park a great place for a nature hike. The Stocking Creek Loop is only 1.5 km long.  The rainy is the best time to visit, but an even better time is during one of our local cold snaps where you will see the falls mostly frozen with a few streams of water flowing through the ice.
