The Upper Shooting Star Waterfall is reached off the highway just past the Nanoose gas station if you are going south. Turn right onto Summerset Rd, then turn onto Seablush Rd and follow it until you see Shooting Star Pl. Follow till you reach the end, and you will find the trailhead.

This is a sweet falls that is best seen during the fall rains and winter months. The trail is pleasant and filled with bird life in the summer months. I must warn you about the beginning of the trail; there was a muddy spot, so a cover of plywood was put down. Great idea, but the last time I was there, the wood had become quite slippery and I found myself flying through the air to land with a thud. My back was sore for a week. So please watch your step here.

There is a trail that takes you down to the lower falls, but these are best accessed from the pull-out rest stop along the highway in Nanoose Bay. Just go back the way you drove in, and once you reach the highway, turn right and drive to the lookout. When you reach the rest stop, park and head up the grassy hill. Go past the last picnic table, where you will find the trail. This is a pretty nice spot for a bit of a walk.

The wildlife I have seen here is of the smaller variety, including deer, squirrels and a pine marten. The bird life is wonderful, and in a combination of songbirds and raptors, plus a very inquisitive grouse on one hike. There are some trees that can reach a very nice size, and during the fall months, the mushrooms come out. These mushrooms add such a colourful background to the forest.
