This large lake is very deep and offers some great year-round fishing for big fish. Some of these fish can reach 3 kg. You will find cutthroat trout, rainbow trout, and dolly varden chart in Comox Lake. There are a few pretty big kokanee in the lake as well. Trolling is the best way to fish in this lake.
At Cumberland Lake Park on Vancouver Island, there is a boat launch, campground, and picnic area. This is a great place to swim, picnic, and camp. There are some nice trails here, one leads you up to a most awesome waterfall. I enjoy hiking this trail, it’s short, but the end result is pretty cool to see.
There is another boat launch at the northeast end of the lake, just off the Comox Lake mainline. This is where the dam is located, you can picnic and swim here as well as launch your boat. The best way to see this lake is from the water, and the best way to travel on it is by canoe or kayak, there are so many awesome places to camp and many small and large streams that flow in, these are always great places to wet a line.
This is a very pretty lake with some awesome bays and shoreline forests, you can see all kinds of wildlife here including plenty of birds. I saw a spirit deer here when l was a young man, just an awesome sight to see. It was as white as snow and the day I saw it, it was foggy out. The spirit deer walked out of the fog and came within 3 meters of me as he walked by. He had an incredible rack and showed me no fear but just looked at me with those bright eyes. I still see him in my dreams.
I’ve fished this lake since the 60s and have caught some big fish here. Your only access to this lake is at the two boat launches, the timber west roads are all gated now with no access. The liberals gave them this land for free and now they lock us out. I don’t understand why this is so, but it’s how our current government rolls.
