Alice Lake is a very pretty lake located on the north end of Vancouver Island. It is one of a series of good fishing lakes just off the Port Alice highway, which runs down the west side of the lake.
The lake offers up some very good fishing for rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, kokanee, and dolly varden. Trolling from a boat is the best way to fish in this lake. Use light tackle and be prepared for some real fishing excitement. There is something about fighting a big fish on a light spinning tackle or a light fly rod.
Fishing is best in the spring or fall and usually just before sunset when the night bite is on. Although the real big fish always seem to be biting in the afternoon and there are some massive fish here. The rainbow trout are among the biggest on the Island, there are some areas on this lake that reach depths of over 60 meters. Fishing deep here will set you up for some real big dolly varden and cutthroat trout.
The Regional District has built the campground on the Lake. It’s by far, the prettiest campground on the island, for camping at its finest, you must come and visit this Lake. This is a very popular campground and can get pretty busy in the summer. There are many other great campgrounds within a short drive from here, so you should be able to find a spot at one of them.
There is plenty of wildlife here, and you will have a good chance of seeing elk, deer, bears, possibly a wolf or cougar, and a huge variety of birds. So don’t forget to bring your camera, so you can take home some memories.
