The Kains Lake Rec Site is located on Kains Lake; you can find it on the Holberg rd about west 14 km of Port Hardy, Vancouver Island. The fishing is good, but the cutthroat trout are slow-growing and mostly run between 20 and 40 cm, but the odd one will reach up to 3.5 kg. The lake receives very little fishing pressure, and you will usually have the lake to yourself.

This is a nice little campsite here and a car-top boat launch. There are a few Dolly Varden Char and Kokanee Trout in this lake. Several streams flow into the lake that are great to fly fish at; black ant flies work well. You can troll along the drop-off with a black flatfish or a lake troll and worms.

North of Kain’s lake is Georgie Lake, there is a good rec site and boat launch here, and to the west is Nahwitti Lake, you will find a nice rec site here with room for 8 groups of campers and there are trails that head to the water where you can launch a canoe or kayak. The fishing is fairly good at all 3 lakes due to little fishing pressure.

There is a very good chance to see some of our larger animals like bears, elk, deer or maybe even a cougar and there are many types of smaller animals here, animals like pine martens, raccoons, mink, beaver, otters and many more.

The birdlife is incredible, and you will be amazed at the number of different flowers and plants that can be seen here, come in the spring, and you will wonder why you never came here before.

So, when you drop in to visit this little lake at the rec site, don’t forget to bring your camera and take home some memories.
