Deep Bay Harbour is located on Vancouver Island, 26 km north of Qualicum Beach,  the area is known as “lighthouse country”. Lighthouse Country is named for the two lighthouses that mark its boundaries, it stretches from Qualicum Bay on the south end to Fanny Bay on the north end. In between these communities, you will find a wealth of things to do. The harbour is a pretty cool place to start.

The area is well known for its fishing, did you know that at one time, it was considered by most to be the best fishing area on the BC coast? It still is excellent for fishing and big springs are consistently pulled into the boat in the waters surrounding Deep Bay. The area has been occupied for thousands of years by the first people, it was not until late 1800 that the Europeans began to arrive, the abundance of fish and the vast forests of giant trees were what drew them here.

The bay and harbour are excellent places to view wildlife, both marine and terrestrial, the birdlife here is incredible. You could see black bears feeding on the beach at low tide or some of the many sea lions that have taken up residence in the area. In the spring you might see the black brant along with many other seabirds, feeding on a herring spawn, or perhaps you might see a pod of killer whales, there’s always something to be amazed about.

Deep Bay Area is an excellent place to go kayaking, so many little bays and islands to explore, you could head across and spend time on the waters that surround Denman Island or continue past and check out the sea caves of Hornby Island. It can all start at the Deep Bay Harbour, your gateway to adventure.
