Mcivor Lake Trail

The Mcivor Lake Trail is a 2km loop trail located on the shores of Mcivor Lake, it’s a very pleasant trail with nice views. I like to park right before the gate on the road. From here you can access the trail. It will take you on a walk through a very green forest trail that will go to the doggy point parking area. Once you are in the lot, head toward the beach watching for the trail on the right side, it’s before you head downhill. This section of the trail takes you through a pet cemetery. Some of the graves are quite beautiful. I like to visit as I walk by. Dogs are welcome but should be leashed.

Doggy Point was named after this grave site, it has been here for a very long time, I remember the first time I visited here back in 1961, there were lots of graves then. As a child, this place made me sad, but now I am pleased to see how much these animals were loved as is evident with the care of their gravesites.

From Doggy Point, you head towards the boat ramp, the trail follows along the shore of the lake and there is a nice bench halfway where you can sit and look out over the lake. I like to sit here on sunny days and just relax. The best time is early morning on a sunny day. After a rest on the bench, you can continue along through a green forest until you reach the boat ramp. From here you can walk back along the road to your car or do as I do and just head back on the trail.

All the times I have wandered through this trail system, I have never run into another trail walker, this has always made me wonder why, perhaps it’s the graves. I on the other hand love these tributes to old friends who have passed on. If you are looking for a nice trail, close to Campbell River, that is both beautiful and easy to hike, you have found it, Happy Trails.
