Battleship Lake

Battleship Lake is located in Strathcona Park, up on the beautiful Forbidden Plateau. The Plateau is covered in lakes with trails connecting them all. As you hike along these trails you will be visited by the Whisky Jacks or camp Robbers. Their real name is the Gray Jay. They are so much a part of the landscape. They are a common high country bird on all the Island’s mountains.

These birds will land right on you, looking for food. I always carry some pepperoni, they really like it, and you can sometimes have 5 or 6 birds at a time on you and many more waiting their turn. This is such a great thrill to the guests we take up into the mountains, they get so excited. It’s a moment that they will never forget.

The lake is reached by a trail that leaves from the Paradise Meadows trailhead near the Mount Washington ski area. This lake is a big mountain lake, a jewel of a lake. The lake has great fishing for small, stocked rainbow trout. Occasionally a few of these get some size to them but as a rule, the big ones are far and few between.

Battleship Lake is at a high altitude and the fishing starts later in the year which means that the summer is the best time to fish, which is great for hikers/campers looking for a fresh feed of trout.

This is one of those really pretty mountain lakes and just awesome when seen covered by the morning mist. You can find trails to Lake Helen McKenzie, Kwai Lake, Hairtrigger Lake, Circlet Lake, moat lake, Mariwood Lake, Croteau Lake, Lady Lake, and many more trails up on the plateau. There are short trails that can be done in several hours to long trails that can take many days to cover.
