Haithe Lake is located above Sayward in the Newcastle Ridge area. You can reach the lake by taking the m branch logging road out of the village and following this till you see the lake. There is a spur that takes you almost to the shore of the lake, which is located on the northeast side of the lake.

They say this is in the Haithe Mountain Range, also known as little Patagonia. This range has many challenging peaks to climb. If this lake is located in the Haithe Range, it must be at the extreme eastern side of it. There is a lack of high peaks here, but the unofficially named Newcastle Mountain is right above the lake.

The lake itself is a beautiful place, with so many channels and arms to explore. It must have been incredible before they logged the areas around the lake so extensively, and it’s more like a moonscape now. When you are right at the lake, at least most of the logging is hidden by a buffer zone of old-growth forests that consist mostly of yellow cedar.

I have not tried fishing here, but from the jumpers I see when I go there, I suspect there are plenty of cutthroats in the lake. The bird life is still relatively robust down at the lake and buffer zone. There are many elk here, along with black bears, and once in a while, you might see a Grizzly bear.
If you continue along the road, it will take you out to the Adam Mainline logging road, where you can turn left to reach the north island highway just past Keta Lake.
