Introduction
My Great, Great, Great Grandfather, Robert was a Scottish-born man who hailed from the Black Isles area of Scotland. When he was a young man, he took up living in the West Indies. He lived there until 1771. While there, he met and fell in love with Anne Stitcher, she was a freed slave, in 1771 they moved to Montreal Canada. They would be married just before the birth of their first child, Ann. One of their sons, my Great, Great, Grandfather Robert, was born soon after. Robert was educated in Montreal; he was fluent in both French and English. When Robert was a young man, and employed by the Hudson Bay Company, he met Mary Omeara who was a Saulteaux/Cree maiden and he fell in love with her. He married her.
My Grandfather was born in the early 1870s. He married my Grandmother who was Chippewa from the Aamjiwnaang First Nations which is located on the St Clair River. He was a Merchant Marine and by the early 1900s, owned 3 river tugs.
And so my story begins.
