Wolf Lake

Wolf Lake is a picturesque lake with numerous areas to set up camp and stay for a few days. I first visited this lake back in the 1970s. The fishing was good, but the fish were wormy.

I understand this is not an issue these days. There are lots of cliffs for cliff diving. There is a boat ramp at the northwest end of the lake with camping, and another picnic area on the other end of the lake.

Wolf Lake was used by the Comox Logging Company to boom logs.  Booming went on from 1911 up to 1950. There is still much to be seen from those days.  Out on the lake, you will see boom sticks, pilings and various remains of equipment throughout the forested areas around the lake.  The logging company would sort the logs and then reload them onto trucks.  The trucks would travel down the Iron River Mainline to the dump in Oyster Bay. I used to use the Iron River Road to reach the fishing and hunting areas in this area between Comox and Campbell River.  Quite a few years back, the bridge over the creek was taken out.

There is a very high possibility of seeing black bears in the area around the lake. The birdlife is pretty nice as well. Plenty of grouse along the roads in the late spring, early summer. Please watch for the babies as they are hard to see, and they will freeze when they feel there is a threat. Watch out on the lake in the evenings, you might just see a loon and hear its haunting call. There are numerous trails surrounding Wolf Lake, they are multi-use trails for bikes, people and pets.
